Girls Cheer had a historic season as they expanded into Game Day cheer competitions while continuing their strong tradition of sideline cheer at all home basketball games. The team competed three times prior to the OSAA Cheer Championships and placed in the top two for small schools at each competition. Entering the Game Day State Championships as the favorite in their division, the team rose to the occasion and captured the first girls team state championship in Westside school history. The hire of head coach Gabby Hill has paid off in many ways, as she has served as a positive mentor, challenging coach, and consistent supporter, guiding the cheerleaders to excellence throughout the season.
Boys Basketball
Boys Basketball had a fresh look this season following the addition of assistant coach Marc Howell and the graduation of a championship-heavy roster from last winter’s state title team. Returning only one starter, the team opened the season 2-1 at our home tournament before quickly establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the state. They compiled an impressive 21-4 regular season record and secured a statement victory at home over rival and top-ranked Valley Catholic, proving their ability to make another championship run. The team played Valley Catholic for the third time in the District Championship with another victory to claim the title of District Champions. The team had a heart-breaking loss to Banks in the second round of the State Tournament to miss the quarter-finals.
Girls Basketball
Girls Basketball returned with their entire roster from the previous season, where they finished 9-16, and showed tremendous growth throughout the season. With the addition of a few key transfers and a highly productive summer season that included 52 games, the team improved to a 16-10 regular season record. Their hard work culminated in securing the third league bid to state with a win over Portland Adventist. Head coach Brent Masterson continues to emphasize keeping Jesus at the center of the program, even incorporating “Jesus Saves” shirts during warm-ups as a reflection of the team’s culture. The girls hit the road for the first round of the OSAA State Playoffs beating higher seed Harrisburg. The girls' season finished in the second round losing to eventual state champions, Amity.

Cross Country
The Cross Country program had strong participation this fall as they were led by seasoned XC/T&F coach, Scott Ball. A total of 16 boys and 8 girls joined the team this year. Athletes competed in 13 meets across Oregon and one in Washington with our top male runner, Levi V, running a 16:34, and our top female runner, Jo M, running 20:05 in the 5K. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams qualified for the OSAA State Meet for the first time since 2012. The girls placed 14th in the 3A/2A/1A division, while the boys placed 10th in the 3A division. This season's result reflected significant growth and dedication within the program.
Girls Volleyball
Girls volleyball had a historic season led by returning coach Kristina Thom. We fielded three full teams and had a record number of underclassmen (13 sophomores and 14 freshmen). Led by 7 seniors, the varsity team achieved a league record of 11-1 and an overall record of 25-3, with their only losses to Valley Catholic.
The team made history twice by advancing to the OSAA 3A State Semifinals and then the State Final placing 2nd. Individual honors included one athlete on the first-team all-tournament, two on the second-team all-tournament, and Ella Perry was named Lewis & Clark League Athlete of the Year. Six additional athletes received league awards. Our coach was named Lewis & Clark League Coach of the Year, and the team earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer program has grown from 15 athletes last year to 20 this year. We welcomed Mat Johnson as head coach, a familiar face in the community as a Westside Christian substitute. Coach Johnson brought passion and commitment, leading the team to an 8-7 winning season (the first since 2020) and a league playoff appearance with a victory in the first game. The team featured a strong infusion of young talent, with only two seniors, demonstrating depth and promise for future seasons.
Boys Soccer
The boys varsity team was another team with a historic season. They were led by Jason Housley and supported by Portland Timbers retiree Jorge Villafana, and a full JV team led by two more qualified coaches. With leadership from 5 seniors, the team achieved a 13-2-2 record, defeating schools from 2A to 5A levels, and finished the regular season ranked 3rd in the state. We had 6 athletes make the Special District 1 all-league awards.
After a thrilling 1-0 victory over league rival OES, they played #1 Catlin Gabel in the OSAA 3A/2A/1A State Final for the second time in three years. They took home the first boys OSAA state championship trophy for the first time in Westside school history. They won the championship 2-1 in a thrilling game with lots of fan and community support.
